The story behind the “Kwaw Festival”

       (Buhatan Sto. Domingo Albay)

Many people don’t know where Santo  Domingo is located. Santo  Domingo is located in the province of Albay within Region 5 in the southern tip of the island of Luzon, also called the Bicol Region, headed by Mayor Herbie Aguas. Santo Domingo has many celebrations such as Fiesta’s which is a culture that cannot be removed from us, Filipinos. In the Philippines almost all barangays that are populated by Christians celebrate fiesta.
Santo  Domingo has a total of 23 barangays. Every barangays has some sort of  festivals or tradition that is celebrated every year. One of the barangay in Santo Domingo which is Buhatan  conduct  the so called “Kwaw Festival” during March. Kwaw is a kind of fish which is a seasonal fish. You can only saw this kind of fish in the month of February to March. We celebrate this just like the Bangus Festival. This is not a big celebration, we only  do this for us to remember the abundant catch of this kind of  fish . In the morning, there’s a parade  that symbolize that  the celebration is starting. In the afternoon, you will witness a various kwaw dishes and placed to a very long table where all the tourist and all the citizen in the barangay are free to eat as much as they could. In the evening , you can enjoy various talents of the contestants in Buhatan Got Talent .
There’s more fun  festival held in our place that other people do not know the most because our barangay is a remote area but I’m telling you, you need to experience the  kwaw  festival and I'm sure you will enjoy.
